The Maryland flag is quartered into four alternating sections:

First & Fourth Quarters (Top left & Bottom right):
Feature the black-and-gold chevrons (diagonal stripes) from the Calvert family coat of arms. George Calvert, also known as Lord Baltimore, was the founder of the Maryland colony.

    ● Second & Third Quarters (Top right & Bottom left):
         Display the red-and-white cross bottony from the Crossland family coat of arms, the family of Calvert's mother.

    ● Colors:

     Black, gold (yellow), red, and white.


    Shape & Ratio:

    Standard 2:3 ratio, like most U.S. state flags.
